Kayaking and Canoeing - Whistler, BC, Canada Region

Oceans, lakes and rivers are everywhere In Sea to Sky Country. The abundance of connecting waterways in the region creates an ideal network of routes that attracts many kayakers and canoeist every year to Whistler, Squamish and Pemberton, BC, Canada.

There are numerous alpine lakes hidden throughout the valleys and around every mountain bend. Roof top vehicles with kayaks and canoes are often seen in many lake parking lots. While with some other lakes access is not so easy and requires portaging a canoe down a hiking trail to a lake.

There are also raging rivers pouring down the mountain slopes in Sea to Sky Country attracting river kayakers. Raging rivers slicing and dicing there way through mountain rock churning over with whirlpools, back eddys and whitewater currents. Many rivers eventually empty into the ocean waters near Squamish BC on the shores of Howe Sound.

The kayak and canoe adventure companies in the region provide tours of the area. Qualified interpretive guides lead all participants down the waterways for half day and full day tours. The kayak and canoe companies provide the lessons and equipment. But many do not rent out canoes or kayaks for safety reasons.

When is Whistler, BC, Canada canoeists enjoy paddling the waters of Cheakamus Lake and Callaghan Lake. While in Squamish many ride the rapids on the Mamquam River or paddle the shores of Alice Lake. Further north in Pemberton, there are also more canoe destinations like One Mile Lake and Birkenhead Lake.

The ocean bays and inlets around Squamish on Howe Sound and the rapids of Mamquam River are popular adventure playgrounds for ocean and river kayakers. Further inland towards Whistler river kayakers can play on the Cal-Cheak River and in Pemberton on the the Lillooet River.
