Cat Lake -
A little more remote than some of the other parks in the area, Cat
Lake, provides an outdoor out-of-the-way recreational experience
in a wilderness forested environment with a small lake providing
the entertainment.
Hikers and mountain bikers are not the only
ones who enjoy the region though. It is very common to see canoes
and kayaks on the lake exploring regularly. On the shoreline of
the lake, often hidden or dragged up on shore, are wooden home-made
rafts to use at your discretion. Look further and there are rope
swings from trees used for throwing people into the lake.
The trail system in the area is filled with
challenging mountain bike routes navigating around the Cat Lake
and Cheekeye river area. The, sometimes muddy, always tough mountain
bike trails eventually connect to the Alice
Lake, Cat Lake, Brohm
Lake and Garibaldi Highlands hiking
and mountain biking trails.
Fishing is also another activity that is popular
on the lake. Although, it is an over fished lake therefore the rainbow
trout might be a bit too smart for some rod and reel types.
The lake also has walk-in camping only. From the
parking lot is a path down to the tenting sites. Be aware, that
the lake draws a louder than usual crowd. A crowd that likes to
sometimes party. Families should be prepared for late nights. The
recreational campground might not be for everyone.
The north of Alice Lake Provincial Park. Watch
for a highway sign that says 'Whistler 44 km' and make the next
right turn. Cat Lake lies 1.2 miles (2 km) from here.
Lake Access - From Squamish head
north on the Sea to Sky Highway (Hwy 99). Continue north past Alice
Lake Provincial Park. Soon after... keep an eye out for Cat Lake
Forest Road which is just off of Hwy 99. Watch for a highway sign
that says 'Whistler 44 km' and take the next right turn. Follow
the gravel road for another 1.2 miles (2 km) to the parking lot.
