Sport Fishing - Where there are mountains there are valleys with lakes and rivers. Where there are tides and coastlines there are vast oceans. Where there are lakes and oceans combined... there are bound to be many fishing enthusiasts in the region. The Sea to Sky Country including the villages of Whistler, Squamish and Pemberton BC have oceans, lakes and rivers.
Some anglers arriving in the region come all prepared driving a 4x4 with a roof top boat, rod and reel in the back... and a good off roading map book because many of the alpine lakes in the region are best accessed by rough gravel logging roads. And we all know... a well prepared fisherman is a happy fisherman. With fishing equipment in tow there are plenty of lakes and rivers to cast a line in hoping to land a trout or salmon.
Other fisherman prefer the ocean fishing opportunities found in the bays and inlets around Squamish and Howe Sound. Many arrive in big fishing vessels equipped with all the tools of the trade preparing to set out on their own on a fishing adventure. Others, like to be guided and fish aboard a charter boat. Preparing ahead by booking with one of the experienced local fishing charter companies would increase your chances of catching a salmon or halibut, as the local guides would know the more popular fishing holes.
Some of the lakes and rivers in the region best accessed for fresh water fishing would include the Callaghan and Cheakamus Lakes near Whistler, BC. When venturing south with rod and reel make sure to plan to cast a line at Cat Lake near Squamish. And, if your doing the circuit, out near Pemberton way, there is one of the nicest remote parks in the area - the Birkenhead Provincial Park - which has a large lake sporting reported good numbers of trout.
