Starts off as a well marked trail, but soon turns into a single track forested hike, passing by lakes and ponds. The Whistler, BC, Canada hiking trail is mostly marked by assorted ribbons tied to trees. It is important to stay on the marked path at all times when trekking along this trail.
The middle part of the hiking route wanders through a forest setting. The hiking trail can be at times rocky and moist, making for slippery conditions especially on the rock/boulder surfaces.The ground is typically west coast with large parts of the forest floor covered in moss and deadfall trees.
The 3.5 Km one-way hiking trail should take 1 -2 hours to complete and may take longer when the trail is flooded which brings mud and exposed tree roots (depending on season). The south trailhead is located in Brandywine Falls Park while the north trailhead is in the Cal-Cheak Recreation Site.
The trail is originally part of the historic Pemberton Trail connecting Squamish with Pemberton. The trail at one time was a popular route used by the early pioneers and First Nation people. Today, the Cal-Cheak trail is the only maintained section of that historic transportation route.
Cal Cheek Trail Access
- South of the village of Whistler, BC, Canada on Hwy 99 (Sea to Sky Hwy) is the parking lot to Brandywine Falls and one of the trailheads of the Cal-Cheak Trail. . It is a 20 minute drive south from Whistler, BC, Canada. Watch for the road signs on the side of the highway pointing the way. The other trailhead is near the Cal-Cheak Recreation Site north of the falls off of Highway 99.
