Dog Sledding - Dogsledding is uniquely Canadian and is an exciting way to travel into the past and see the region decorated in snowflakes during the winter wonderland months. Dogsledding is fast becoming a popular attraction in Sea to Sky Country due to the mountains, forest, alpine lakes and rivers.

The main dog sledding adventures are based mostly from Whistler Village and nearby Cougar Mountain. The dog sledding tours usually travel routes exploring the Soo Valley Wildlife Reserve, on Cougar Mountain and up around Callaghan Lake. The tours are led by experienced mushers and well breed Huskies.

Dogsledding companies and guides provide the necessary skills to run an effective dog team. The lessons provide the skills that are important to running a team like good communicate skills with your dogs, how to deal with the dogs, sledding techniques, harnessing the dogs, loading the sled and the “art” of mushing.

The dogs that pull the sleds are of a special breed. A breed full of energy, persistence and playfulness. The Alaskan Racing Husky is a cross breed of Husky and Greyhound which breeds friendly and approachable dogs.

Most of the tour companies provide the meals and the accommodations. The sledding companies price the packages based on 2 people sharing a sled. Single riders pay full price of sled in most cases.

The tours mostly include transportation from Whistler Village, dog sled team, professional guide with full safety walk through and snacks. Not all provide these services so it is important to ask.

All who plan on dogsledding should book early as sleds are limited. Sledders should all bring warm winter clothing, head covering, gloves and snow boots.
